The first day of Sam and I's US trip started with her heading to work at 8. I prepared for the trip and did some other miscellaneous work and she returned at 2:30. We made some final preparations, had dinner and hit the road at 3:40 with our first sleep of the trip being an AirBnB in Missoula, Montana.
Google said it was about a 4.5 hour trip and was pretty much spot on (don't doubt Google). We headed out of Cranbrook and crossed the US border at Roosville. The border guard was very cordial and let us through quickly without many questions which was nice. He even let us keep the small amount of fruit we had with us.
The trip was pretty uneventful, I drove and Sam slept for part of it. We stopped for gas just south of Eureka and then we didn't stop again until Missoula. Once we arrived in town we went to a local grocery store and picked up some groceries for dinner and Yellowstone. I was surprised at how expensive everything was. Maybe it's just because I haven't been to the US in a while but I thought I recalled food being a lot cheaper. Maybe it was the store we went to it seemed like a Safeway type higher end grocery store, Anderson's.
After grabbing groceries we went to the AirBnB. Sam had booked it, mainly on the basis of it being cheap ($60 CAD for the night), and we were pleasantly surprised to see how nice it was. I haven't been to a lot of AirBnBs but can say this was the nicest. The couple who owned it weren't there but said they would be arriving later, we never saw or heard them the entire time we were there so they must've come late. We prepared our dinner of pizza, coleslaw and Old Milwaukee and after some abolutions we returned for the evening.
Our plan for the next day was to drive the remaining ~4.5 hours to Yellowstone where we had camping reservations and explore the park.
