August 22nd-24th, 2019
August 22nd,
Rudely awoken by cops at 6:45 who told me to scram from the Walmart parking lot I slept at I started my day early. They said there were signs that said I couldn't sleep there (there weren't) but were generally pretty nice about the whole thing. I wasn't too upset and got an early start to the day so grabbed some groceries at Walmart and decided to head out early to Boise, about a 5 hour drive.
I had slept very poorly during the night due to the heat so decided to get a hotel room in Boise when I got there around 2:00 and honestly didn't do much. I did my laundry, updated the blog and messed around on the computer. I was pretty tired and went to bed early.
August 23rd,
Got out of the hotel around 10:00 and departed for Portland about 6 hours away. I was going to meet with my old roommate Matt who wasn't available until after 4:30 but I had miscalculated and forgot that I gained an hour due to time zones so I ended up being early and hanging out at a McDonalds for an hour. The drive there was uneventful and consisted of me listening to podcasts (Joe Rogan Experience mostly) as had become the norm.
Meeting up with Matt and his girlfriend Lily was great. They had a nice apartment in Portland and were very inviting and friendly. It was a blast to see him (its been 3 years) and catch up. Really crazy how time flies! I am very glad I contacted him and went to see him, I think if you don't make the effort to see people then it can be years before you see them so quickly. If any of my old friends or acquaintances are reading this, I am always down to meet up and hang out so contact me!
Anyways after chatting we headed out to grab some beers and food. We stopped at a local eatery and had some cheap burgers and beer before deciding to take an Uber to downtown proper for the evening. After a harrowing Uber experience with a reckless driver we made it to the intended bar where we played ping pong for a while. After that bar we went across the street to a fancier one where we played shuffle ball and eventually pool. We had drank our fair share and were pretty inebriated when we decided to ride around on the scooters you can rent by the minute with an app. Matt was gracious enough to set up his credit card and we took turns bombing around the street, even at one point riding double. This was 100% the highlight of my night and so much fun. Finally we took another Uber back to their apartment and I passed out on the pull out bed.
August 24th,
Waking up at 8:00 very hungover I silently made my way out to my truck. I had bid my farewell the evening prior and didn't want to wake up Matt or Lily. I was to meet my old work colleague Tim at 4:00 in Abbotsford and my GPS said it only would take me 5 hours so I thought I could delay a bit but wisely decided to stick to my originl plan and leave immediately. This was a good decision as the Tacoma / Seattle / Everett traffic was absolutely brutal and it ended up taking me 7 hours to get there (Bluejays game in Seattle was the culprit).
Made it to the Sumas border at 3:45 and met up with Tim at Browns at 4:00. We spoke on me returning to work and caught up until 7:00. I left for Port Moody to stay at my moms house.
So with that it seems my month long fun-employment / vagabond life is over. I am going to make a post about some stats on the Colorado trip and how I intend to update this blog from here on out soon. Cheers!
