Cardinalis Mountain - April 30th 2022 & Sumas Crag May 1st 2022
Decided to finally bang out this ugly peak to finish my goal of going up all the Mission named peaks on Peakbagger. Saturday was a good day for this because it was ugly and no one wanted to go do anything so might as well do an ugly peak.
Left home at 8:30 and got to the trailhead by 9. First 2km were easy logging road slog with maybe 100m of elevation before the bushwack and straight up 300m. I followed the route I had planned on Gaia and the GPX tracks of two other parties but quickly found the bushwacking was too dense for me. I got soaked and fell through some logs and nearly hurt my leg and I decided to go the long way around the logging road and try and go up from the south. This area had looked a bit more clear to me on Google Earth but in hindsight it really wasn't worth the extra 2-3km.
After getting to the end of the logging road I still had to bushwack but it was less dense so a bit easier. I got to the top after not too long, no views, I decided in the interest of time and adventure to go down the way I had bailed on the way up. I was a little worried about the dense brush near the road but I knew I just had to push through. This turned out to be a good decision because I made it through and it saved me a bunch of time. However I was soaked head to toe and so was Jebby.
The rest of the trip back to the truck was uneventful. I got home around 12 and the rest of the day was spent chilling and test driving a few Toyotas because Sam wants to buy a new car.
On Sunday we did a bunch of chores and went out for an easy crag day at Sumas at 12:30. We only did two climbs (the 5.7 and 5.9) but we practiced (mostly me) ascending the rope, and switching from rappel to ascending while in air. I wanted to practice to not forget what I had learned at my course two weeks ago.
