Rolley Peak - March 26th 2022
It'd been a while since I'd done a hike unfortunately. Lots of reasons why, poor weather, Calgary trip, just didn't feel like it but still makes me sad. Anyways I finally got out and convinced Coen to go along. I really wanted to finish up my goal of doing all the Mission area peaks but the last one (Cardinalis) is a decent bushwack and Coen didn't want to do that and I wanted the weather to be ok.
I had to meet a coworker in Maple Ridge at 6 and I didn't want to drive out that way twice so I scheduled everything to save me that trip which means we ended up starting pretty late at 1pm. I heard it could take 4-5 hours but I didn't really see how since it was so simple and I was right. In the end it took us about 3.5 hours and that was with a hearty break and a bushwack to the true summit.
The trail is 100% a logging road jaunt so nothing really interesting to say. It was easy so we made very good time, especially Coen who usually lags a bit behind but this time he was keeping up easily. We made it to the viewpoint in under an hour and a half and had a nice soup lunch. I really enjoy cooking for a long break on hikes and I think I'll try to incorporate that more in to my trips since everyone enjoys eating it as well.
The viewpoint had a newly built platform with tons of signs saying to stay off but it looked safe. I think the signs are just because there are no handrails. Anyways we got pretty nice views looking east across Stave but nothing to write home about and nothing we haven't seen before. Overall the views were better than I expected because the weather wasn't as cloudy as predicted so we were happy.
After probably a 30 minute lunch I convinced Coen to bushwack to the summit (his first). We looped all the way around looking for the easiest entry and found one that wasn't great but went for it. Coen was very hesitant but ended up doing it (good job buddy!) and we were at the summit bump 5 minutes later. Probably the shortest bushwack so far but decently dense and wet which was annoying.
We flew down the trail on our way back, nothing special although our legs hurt. Easy day!
