Silver Hill and Heritage Mountain - January 22nd 2022
I didn't want to do anything too hard this weekend so I had a couple of options and I let Coen pick between them. We ended up deciding to do Silver Hill and Heritage Mountain. They are both very easy and I just wanted to cross them off my list. My goal currently is to tick off all the peaks in the Mission area.
We went to Silver Hill first which is in the Silverdale area. I wanted to try out the Gaia GPS tracking but wanted to make sure I still had my track so I took the Garmin and recorded on both, good thing I did because the Gaia track on this hike was all messed up.
There was no trail on AllTrails for this but when we got there the trail was very obvious and easy to follow. Not much to say, its 100% in the trees with nothing to see. There were a few forks that weren't shown on the map that I don't know where they go, would be interesting to follow them. At one point we came across a car upside down in some water way up the trail. No idea how it got there or what happened but there was police tape so we figured the authorities knew about it and left it alone.
After about 40 minutes we got to the summit plateau, it was pretty wide and flat so we kind of just picked the highest spot from what we could tell and headed back.
On the way down we passed an elderly gentleman and his younger companion (grandson?) who we passed on the way up. They told us the trail continued to some houses on the other side which makes sense. I told him we were only interested in the peak and we kept going.
We got back to the truck, stopped for some gas and food and headed to Heritage. I've lived in and around Mission for most of my life and I've never been to the top! Crazy! I picked the shortest / fastest route which involved driving to Hatzic and parking at the east end. We shot up a mountain bike trail (Hail Mary) and took a small detour to a viewpoint that looked East over the Fraser towards Sumas. Then we went to the top, it only took 20 minutes from the bottom and by the time we got down it had only been about 30 minutes. Easy peasy.
Next hike we will do will probably be Red or Bear.
