Hunter Lookout - December 31st 2021

I wanted to get out for a hike today and I had heard this trail had excellent views for an easy hike and was a bit of a hidden gem and oh boy was that right.

We wanted to leave Abbotsford by 9 but woke up a bit late and ended up leaving at 9:45. We got to the trailhead and started hiking around 10:45. There were half a dozen other cars at the t
railhead and a few groups of people so it was a busy hike.

The trail was an easy plod up a logging road the whole time. There was a lot of snow but since it is such a popular trail it was well packed. I had brought my snow shoes but I never put them on and they weren't really needed. Sam brought hers and since she didn't have a pack she wore hers the whole way but I don't think it was really necessary. Microspikes would've been nice because the packed snow is a bit slippery but not too bad.

It was pretty uneventful. We got passed by a few groups so we weren't exactly pushing the limit but in no time we made it to the top.

Summit shot

The viewpoint was gorgeous and the day was amazing. We lingered for a while and had soup and coffee with our sandwiches which was awesome, I'll definitely bring my stove on more trips because its fun.

Mt. Crickmer on left, Robie Reid back center, Judge Howay far back, Stave Lake

Mt. St. Benedic and Monastic Peak on right

We stayed about half an hour at the top enjoying the sunshine and the views before descending. The way down was much faster and we were back to the car by 1:30. We drove home and got ready for our NYE celebration.

Amazing Jebby shot

Stats

I think I'll go back to this trail soon to bag the Cannell peak on the right.
