Climbing - Harrison and Sumas (March 17/18 2023)

Amazing weather and I decided to take advantage of it by going climbing!

I took Friday off and met up with a guy I had been messaging with on FaceBook a bit (Jamil) and his friend (Pablo). We met at Harrison bluffs at 10am and got climbing on the East wall for an easy first outdoor lead 5.6. After that we checked out a newly developed face a bit more east. It looked great with a bunch of moderate sport routes but it was kind of dirty and we didn't want to deal with that at the time

Instead we went down lower on the east wall and hit up a 5.10b sport route called "Smear Tactics". Jamil went first but around the 3rd bolt there was a bit of moss / moisture and he couldn't get past it so he lowered. I went next and fell a bit but made my way all the way up. After that Pablo went and he got up with a lot of effort but looking strong.

Climbing with 3 people is pretty slow so by this time it was already around 1pm. We headed back towards the entrance and found a short 5.10c route called Vulture? We took turns on it and all flashed it except Pablo but he was close. It was fun and a little tough at the top.

Finally for the last part of the day we tried getting up a 5.11a. None of us could do it, I made it the farthest but not all the way so we did a nearby 5.9+ and swung over to grab our gear on the way out. Fun day for my first day out of the year!

On Saturday it was another beautiful day. Coen, Sam and I met up with my friend Dustin from the gym and went to Sumas crag. It was Dustins first day ever climbing outside and Coen and Sams first day of the year. Coen started by leading family time 5.7 then we all did. After that Dustin and I lead 5.9 BoB and Sam and Coen toproped it.

After that we did the 5.10(a?) next to Family Time. I led it first and then Dustin. Coen tried but couldn't get past the start and finally Sam cleaned it.

To end the day Dustin and I decided to do the 5.10b. Dustin lead it first but even with my beta for the crux he couldn't stick it. I think he was just tired and done. I lead it and red pointed it and cleaned up and we went home. Good weekend of climbing!

Me finishing the lead (and the day) on the 5.10b (Great route!)
